Auctions: 44,2 mln euro for pink diamond

It was sold yesterday in Geneva by the auction house Christie’s to 50.3 million swiss francs (about 44,25 million euro) the ‘Pink Legacy’, a rare pink diamond for a little less than 19 carats, once belonged to the family Oppenheimer, already the owner of the company De Beers: this is the highest price per carat ever paid for a diamond (about 2.3 million).
Found about 100 years ago, in a mine of south Africa and cut in the 1920’s, ‘Pink Legacy’ has been bought by the american company Harry Winston. The diamond, dubbed ‘the Winston Pink Legacy’ by the new owners, was appraised by Christie’s between 30 and 50 million dollars (the 26.5-44.2 million): the auction lasted only five minutes.
